The Importance of Screening

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers with regular screening. Screening can detect and remove polyps before they become cancerous, saving lives.

Who Should Get Screened?

The timing and frequency of screening depend on your risk level:

  • Average Risk: Begin colonoscopies at age 50, every 10 years.

  • Moderate Risk: Start earlier, around age 40, and screen every 3–5 years if you have a family history or personal risk factors.

  • High Risk: Individuals with specific genetic conditions may need to begin screenings as early as age 21, every 1–2 years.

What is a Colonoscopy?

A colonoscopy is a thorough exam of your colon and rectum using a lighted, flexible instrument. This safe procedure can detect and remove polyps without discomfort. While preparation requires some effort, the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience.

Take the First Step!

Know your risk, talk to your doctor, and follow screening recommendations. Early detection could save your life.
